Men’s Basketball Hosts Shepherd Sunday

BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State men's basketball team will host Shepherd this Sunday, Nov. 27 at 4 p.m. inside A.C. Jordan Arena. It will be the Bulldogs final home game before they play three straight on the road.

The Series:
Bowie State owns a 4-3 record against Shepherd dating back to 2008 but the Rams have won the last two outings, including last year's 88-81 victory in Shepherdstown, WV. Sunday's meeting will be just the second time Shepherd and Bowie State will meet in Bowie, Md.
 
Scouting the Bulldogs (2-4)
Last time out against the University of D.C., sophomore Elijah Ranton (Baltimore, MD) scored 23 points to go along with six rebounds and three blocks while senior Quinton Drayton (Bowie, MD) added 21 points and sophomore Caleb Johnson (Baltimore, MD) scored 12 points and five assists but the Bulldogs suffered a 91-88 setback to the Firebirds at home on Wednesday (Nov. 23). UDC outscored the Bulldogs 52-45 in the second half despite BSU holding a 43-39 lead at intermission.
 
Ranton's 23 points was a season-high as well as his 10 field goals made against UDC. He leads BSU in blocks (7) with a 1.2 average per game. The team's leading scorer is junior Mark Bradshaw (Chester, PA) who averages 15.0 points on 50.8-percent shooting from the field. Johnson is the Bulldogs top passer, averaging 3.0 assists per outing while senior Anthony Carpenter (Reisterstown, MD) posts 5.2 rebounds a night.
 
Bowie State averages 81.3 points while its opponents post 84.5 points.
 
Scouting the Rams (2-2)
Shepherd is in the middle of a home four-game home stand with its stop in Bowie, Md. The Rams had two home games prior to Sunday's game and will return home for two straight and conference play on Dec. 2-3. Coming off a 74-62 win against Lincoln (PA) on Nov. 22 – the Rams enter Sunday's game with a 2-2 overall record.
 
SU averages 69 points per game while its opponents have a held a slight two point scoring margin at 71.0 points. Daniel McClain-Corley has led the team so far with 14.3 points per game. He is shooting 37-percent from the field and 30-percent from the 3-point line (7-23). Additionally, Jon Preston (11.8), Phillip Jordan (11.0) and Carson Poffenberger (10.8) all round out the double figure scoring for the Rams.

The Bulldogs will begin its three-game road skid on Monday, Nov. 28 at Shippensburg. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. in Shippensburg, Pa.
