Women’s Basketball to Wrap up Road Slate at Winston-Salem State Monday

BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State Bulldogs women's basketball team will wrap up its three game road slate with a conference tilt at Winston-Salem State on Monday, Dec. 19 with a tip-off slated for 5:30 p.m. from the C.E. Gaines Center.

Bowie State (6-4, 2-0 CIAA) held Johnson C. Smith to just 15.4 percent from 3-point range in a 2-for-13 shooting performance on the way to a 62-48 victory Saturday led by sophomore Anii Harris (Ellicott City, MD) who finished with 15 points and three steals. Both junior Jayla Irvin (Alexandria, VA) and sophomore Saniha Jackson (Ellicott City, MD) added 10 and nine points and combined 11 rebounds. The Bulldogs never trailed after taking a 15-9 lead at the end of the opening quarter.
 
Scouting the Bulldogs
Bowie State is seventh in the CIAA averaging 63.8 points per game. The Bulldogs are third in team rebounds combined (444), averaging 44.4 per game including second in the league for team offensive rebounds (179 total) and an 17.9 average per outing.
 
Harris ranks in the top-10 for scoring, averaging 15.0 ppg and sixth amongst the league players in free throw percentage (.681). Additionally, Irvin ranks sixth amongst conference opponents in 3-point field goals per game, posting an average of 1.9 per game.
 
Last Time against Winston-Salem State
It took in extra five minutes for Bowie State to come out on top over the Rams, 77-76 during the last meeting held on Jan. 31 in Winston-Salem, N.C. Sophomore Katerra Myers (Burtonsville, MD) scored a career-high 32 points to lead the Bulldogs to the win while Harris chipped in 11 points. That victory extended BSU's win streak to six-straight over the Rams as the Bulldogs own a 9-5 record against WSSU since 2011.
 
A Look at the Rams
The Rams (5-4, 1-1 CIAA) are coming off a 68-60 setback to Virginia Union on Saturday inside C.E. Gaines Center. Amaya Tucker finished with 17 points while Kennidi Summons recorded a team-high seven rebounds. The loss was the first at home for WSSU this season, dipping to 4-1 in the C.E. Gaines Center.
WSSU ranks second in the league for scoring (74.4 ppg) and sixth amongst the CIAA in points allowed (59.4). The Rams lead the conference in team field goal percentage (44-percent), 3-point field goal percentage (36-percent) and assists (15.0).
 
Upcoming Schedule
The Bulldogs will pause for the holiday break before coming back to host Chowan on Dec. 31 at 2 p.m. inside A.C. Jordan Arena.
