Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bulldogs Fall at Virginia Union

RICHMOND, Va. – Sophomore David McCullough (Bowie, MD) scored a team-high 19 points, shooting 7-for-11 from the field, but the Bulldogs of Bowie State (7-17, 5-7 CIAA) fell to the incredible hot shooting Panthers of Virginia Union (18-6, 11-3 CIAA), 82-56, at the Barco-Stevens Hall. Playing without a key starter and impactful reserves, the Bulldogs could not match VUU's 33 made field goals and 51-percent shooting.

The Bulldogs converted 20-of-54 shots from the field (37-percent) while shooting just 23.5-percent from beyond the arc (4-17). On the glass, the Panthers held a 33-23 advantage on the glass as Bowie State never led the entire game.

The first four and a half minutes of play featured two ties until VUU planted a 7-2 run to go ahead 14-10 with 11:00 on the game clock. The Bulldogs cut the Panthers lead to three when McCullough hit a jumper but VUU answered when Keleaf Tate's basket sparked a 9-1 run to extend their lead to double digits. The Panthers eventually grew a surge of 19 before a bucket from junior Quinton Drayton (Bowie, MD) closed the half and Bowie State trailed 43-27 at intermission.

A 3-pointer from senior Justin Route (Washington, DC) got the Bulldogs going to start the second half but down the stretch, BSU's offensive spiraled as VUU doubled their largest lead in the second half at 29 points in route to the win to remain undefeated at home.

Turning the page, the Bulldogs will host Shaw on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 4 p.m. for senior day in its home finale.
