LINCOLN, Pa. – Freshman Anii Harris (Ellicott City, MD) was the lone Bulldog to score in double figures with 14 points as the Bowie State women's basketball dropped a 61-36 decision to Lincoln (PA) Saturday afternoon in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) action from the Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.
Lincoln (PA) went ahead 15-13 after the first quarter but the Bulldogs managed to tie and take the lead sparked by a layup from sophomore Seanice Lyons (Upper Marlboro, MD) and a basket from Harris – giving Bowie State a 20-19 edge but the Lions scored the last seven points of the half to take a 26-20 lead at halftime.
LUPA scored the first six points of the second half to extend their lead 32-20 before a free throw from Harris snapped the scoring drought for the Bulldogs with 6:26 left in the third quarter. Bowie State wouldn't score again until the clock showed 1:22 as Harris sunk a free throw shot. The Bulldogs trailed 46-23 heading into the fourth quarter.
While Bowie State improved its shooting percentage in the fourth stanza at 36-percent, LUPA maintained control of the quarter as BSU wouldn't get any closer than 21 for the remainder of the way.
The Lions held advantages in points off turnovers (24-5), second chances (12-4), points in the paint (36-14), fast breaks (26-6). The Bulldogs bench did perform well, holding a 31-8 ratio in the contest.
The loss dips Bowie State to 9-9 overall and 7-4 in the league. Lincoln (PA) improves to 16-6 overall and 9-3 in the conference.
The Bulldogs will return to action Monday, Feb. 7 at Fayetteville State for a tip-off slated for 2 p.m.
