Bulldogs Split Opening Day of CIAA Round-Up

BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State women's tennis team split the opening day of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) round-up Friday afternoon at the BSU Tennis Courts. The Bulldogs fell 4-1 to Johnson C. Smith but was able to bounce back with a 4-0 sweep over Livingstone in the day's nightcap.

Against the Golden Bulls (2-0), the Bulldogs (2-2) lone point came from sophomore Afruica Gentle (Germantown, Ghana) who punched in a 8-4 triumph at the No. 1 singles but JCSU grabbed wins at the No. 2-4 singles before prior to the doubles point with 6-0 win at the No. 2-3 positions.

Bowie State claimed 2-of-3 by the scores of 6-0 to take a 1-0 lead over Livingstone (0-2) during game two. BSU was credited with two default wins at the No. 5 and 6 singles. Sophomore Tamia Byrom (Upper Marlboro, MD) blanked her opponent, 8-0 to cap off the victory for the Bulldogs at the No. 4 singles.

The Bulldogs will return to action Saturday, Mar. 19 with matches against Winston-Salem State and Shaw at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to conclude the two-day round-up.
