WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Bowie State women's tennis team continued to roll with its fourth-straight win and sixth shutout on the season with a 9-0 road victory at Trinity (DC) Thursday afternoon.
The Bulldogs played several players in the lineup against the Tigers as BSU shined.
Sophomore Afruica Gentle (Germantown, Guyana) continued dominance, pounding her opponent for an 8-0 win at the No. 1 position; she now improves to 6-0 this season. Additionally, she collaborated up with freshman Kayla Lowery (Cleveland, OH) for an 8-0 win at the No. 1 doubles, which marked the pair's seventh win on the year to improve to 6-1.
Lowery posted an 8-0 win at the No. 2 singles while freshman Aria Mason (Canton, MI) and sophomore Tamia Byrom (Upper Marlboro, MD) grabbed 8-0 victories at 3 and 4 singles. Byrom improves to 7-1 in singles comptiton while Mason now stands 5-3 overall.
Sophomore Natalya Rones (Springdale, MD) and freshman Denaij Rose (Bowie, MD) closed out singles competition with 8-1 wins at 5 and 6, respectively. The single wins for Rones and Rose were their first this season.
Additionally, the Byrom and junior Jatiya Stewart (Lanham, MD) teamed up for a 8-1 win at the No. 2 doubles while Rones and Rose picked up a 8-1 win also at the No. 3 doubles that sealed the 9-0 victory for Bowie State.
Bowie State (7-3) will return to action for senior day on Saturday, Apr. 23 against Virginia Union. First serve is slated for 12 noon.
