Bulldogs Advance to Program’s First Appearance in CIAA Tournament Semifinals

BOWIE, Md. – The No. 3 Bowie State women's tennis team continues to make program history thanks to a dominating 7-0 victory against the No. 6 seeded Livingstone College Blue Bears during the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Quarterfinal round at BSU Tennis Courts. The win advances the Bulldogs to the semifinals on Friday, April 29 – the programs first ever appearance with the championship match taking place on Saturday, April 30.

Both the semifinal and championship rounds will be hosted at the VSU Tennis Complex on the campus of Virginia State University. The tournament is free and open to the public.

Five of the wins in the Bulldogs winning streak have come against Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Division opponents (Virginia Union, Virginia State and Elizabeth City State).

  • Afruica Gentle (Georgetown, Guyana) continued her streak in singles competition at the No. 1 position improving to 9-0 overall.
  • Tamia Byrom (Upper Marlboro, MD) also is streaking with eight-straight wins to improve to 11-1 overall at mostly the No. 4 position.
  • Kayla Lowery (Cleveland, OH) improves to 7-3 overall, extending her win-streak to five at the No. 2 position while Aria Mason (Canton, MI) has now won five-straight at the No. 3 singles – she is now 8-3 overall.
  • Bianca Tucker (Edgewood, MD) is 4-0 at the No. 5 singles with today's win while Natayla Rones () improved to 2-1 at the No. 6 slot.
  • With today's double's win at the No. 2 position, Byrom and Mason now stand 7-3 overall, stretching their win-streak to five consecutive victories.
