The Series
Bowie State is 11-17 all-time against Virginia Union dating back to 2009. In the last 10 matchups between the two teams, VUU has won seven. Both teams split the regular season series during 2021-22 with BSU winning at home 65-61 on Jan. 19, 2022 but the Panthers responded with a dominating win at home 82-56 on Feb. 10, 2022.

Last Time Out
Despite a shorthanded roster on Wednesday, the Bulldogs erased a 15-point deficit in the first half to push the game to overtime but Bowie State fell short 71-65 to Elizabeth City State last time out. The Bulldogs (5-15, 3-5 CIAA) had two players score in double figures, led by junior Anthony Carpenter (Baltimore, MD), who had 16 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. Freshman Warren Mouganda (Bowie, MD) added 14 points, six rebounds and two steals and junior Joel Webb (Forestville, MD) added eight points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

Bowie State out-rebounded Elizabeth City State 60-56 in Wednesday's game, led by Webb's 13 boards. The Bulldogs also grabbed 24 offensive rebounds and scored 22 second chance points.

Last Timeout against Virginia Union
Virginia Union topped the Bulldogs, 53-52 to advance to the 2022 CIAA Men's Basketball Tournament on Feb. 23 at the Royal Farms Arena. Bowie State led 28-24 at the half before grooming a double digit lead as large as 13 points with under 10 minutes left until the Panthers hit nine free throws in a span of three minutes to eventually close the gap to one (51-50) with 2:37 left to play. Unfortunately the Bulldogs offense went cold, scoring just one time during the final two minutes as VUU regained the lead for good thanks to free throws.

For the game, the Panthers connected only 13-of-40 from the free throw line while Bowie State was responsible for 9-of-30 shots at the charity stripe. Carpenter finished with 15 points to lead the Bulldogs and Robert Osborne led VUU with 16 points and eight rebounds.

A Look at the Panthers
The Panthers are one of the top teams in the CIAA this season. Virginia Union enters Saturday's game on a four game win-streak including a 74-72 overtime win over Lincoln (PA) on Jan.18. Osborne led all players with 26 points and 11 rebounds while Chares Tart III added 13 points. The win, coupled with Virginia State University's 86-76 loss to Shaw University, moved VUU into first place in the Northern Division of the CIAA. Osborne leads the conference in scoring (20.2) while Raemond Wright is the league's top rebounder (9.3).

VUU is 15-4 overall, 5-2 in the CIAA and 2-0 in the division.
