BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State women's basketball will host Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) foe Virginia Union in a Northern Division tilt Saturday, Jan. 21 at 12 noon from A.C. Jordan Arena.

The Series
Since 2009, Bowie State holds a slight advantage of 16-15 all-time record against Virginia Union. The longest win streak for the Bulldogs over the Lady Panthers was eight games from 2009-2012 while the longest losing skid for BSU against VUU was from 2015-2018. Last season, both teams split the regular season's series with Bowie State taking the first meeting, 65-56 on Jan. 19, 2022 while VUU sought revenge on Feb. 10, 2022 with a 60-44 win in Richmond, Va.
Last Time Out
Bowie State kept Elizabeth City State (10-6, 4-4 CIAA) to just 29.8 percent shooting from the field on the way to a 55-44 victory over the Vikings on the road Wednesday. The Bulldogs (8-8, 4-3 CIAA) had two players score in double figures, led by freshman
Mia Smith (Clarksburg, MD), who had 12 points. Junior
Robyn Howard (Temple Hills, MD) tacked on 11 points and two steals and redshirt sophomore
Katerra Myers (Burtonsville, MD) added eight points, seven rebounds and two steals. BSU's defense held Elizabeth City State to only 29.8 percent shooting from the field, including 29.4 percent from beyond the arc.
The Bulldogs are led by sophomore
Anii Harris (Ellicott City, MD) with 14.2 points per game. Myers is the team's best rebounder at 6.8 boards per outing – she ranks sixth in the CIAA while junior
Seanice Lyons (Upper Marlboro, MD) averages 2.9 assists per game (6
th in CIAA).
Last Time against Virginia Union
After trailing 14-9 in the first quarter, the Lady Panthers scored the first five points to start the second quarter, but the Bulldogs fought back on an 11-4 run to cut the deficit to three. Virginia Union would trail 29-22 lead at halftime. The Bulldogs outscored VUU 14-11 in the third quarter and closed the gap to four (40-36) heading into the fourth stanza. However, a 10-2 scoring spread in favor of VUU made it hard for Bowie State pull off a comeback as the Lady Panthers was able to sustain their lead down the stretch.
Harris finished with 16 points and four rebounds while Myers added 10 points and eight rebounds.
A Look at the Lady Panthers
Virginia Union has lost its last three games entering Saturday's contest. The Lady Panthers are coming off a 52-51 setback on Jan. 18 at Lincoln (PA). Chris Alston registered a team-high 14 points while Ny Langley chipped in 12 points and Bruni Martinez had nine rebounds in the setback.
Statistically, Langley ranks fourth in the league for scoring (15.7 points per game) and second amongst the conference with 10.3 rebounds per outing. She also is second in the league for free throws, shooting 79-percent while Naeva Rene is second in the CIAA for blocked shots (23). VUU is 8-9 overall, 2-5 in the CIAA and 0-2 in the division. The Lady Panthers are 4-4 on the road this season.
