Bulldogs Fall 86-60 to Virginia Union

BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State men's basketball team got a 38-point performance from the bench, but fell 86-60 to the Virginia Union Panthers (16-4, 6-2 CIAA, 3-0 North) at home Saturday afternoon in A.C. Jordan Arena.

The Bulldogs (5-16, 3-6 CIAA, 1-2 North) had two players score in double figures, led by Kyree Freeman-Davis (Bowie, MD), who had 11 points. Warren Mouganda (Bowie, MD) added 10 points and Elijah Rantin (Baltimore, MD) added three points, seven rebounds and four blocks.

Mouganda pulled down two offensive rebounds to lead the Bowie State offense which grabbed 18 boards and turned them into 16 second chance points.

BSU forced 17 VUU turnovers but also committed 15 of its own. Those takeaways turned into 13 points on the other end of the floor. Caleb Johnson's (Baltimore, MD) two steals led the way individually for the Bulldogs.

How It Happened
Bowie State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 50-26 heading into halftime.

The Panthers kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 68-32 advantage before the Bulldogs went on a 10-0 run to shrink the deficit to 68-42 with 8:25 to go in the contest. Bowie State capitalized on 12 VUU turnovers in the period, collecting 11 points off those turnovers. But ultimately, BSU was unable to cut further into the deficit by the end of the game, before succumbing in the contest.
