Women’s Basketball Remains at Home to Host Claflin Saturday

BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State women's basketball will host Claflin University in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) action on Saturday, January 7th. Tip-off from A.C. Jordan Arena is slated for 12:00 p.m. ET.

The Series
The Bulldogs own a 4-0 record  against the Lady Panthers dating back to 2018.The last meeting occurred on Jan. 8, 2022 in Orangeburg, S.C., with the Bulldogs toppling Claflin, 73-51.
 
Last Time Out
The Bulldogs (7-6, 3-1 CIAA) hosted St. Augustine's University in a conference match-up on Thursday, Jan. 5th. Redshirt Sophomore Katerra Myers (Burtonsville, MD) led Bowie State with 13 rebounds aided by sophomore Saniha Jackson (Ellicott City, MD) pulling down 10 more leading BSU to victory 64-54 over the Falcons. Jackson led offensively with 16 points and two steals while sophomore Anii Harris (Ellicott City, MD) put up 11 points, three steals, and six rebounds.
 
Bowie State as a team averages 63.5 points per outing which is seventh amongst the CIAA while holding its opponents to just 59.0 points. The Bulldogs are top-5 in team offensive rebounds (17.6) and combined rebounds (42.5). Harris is eight in scoring (14.8) while Myers and Jackson are eighth (6.6) and ninth (6.4) in rebounding.
 
A Look at the Lady Panthers of Claflin
The Lady Panthers (9-3, 3-1 CIAA) are coming off a 57-52 victory over Virginia Union University on Thursday. CU had three players score in double figures led by Janell Horton who posted 14 points and five rebounds. She was 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. Both Morgan Kelson and Ashari Lewis chipped in 11 points each and combined for 10 rebounds – Kelson also grabbed seven boards. The top rebounder for CU was Dior Shelton with eight rebounds.
 
Claflin averages 73.4 points per game while allowing 58.4 points, average 25.8 percent of field goals made per game and ranks first in the southern division of the CIAA. Lauren Scott is the team's leading scorer, averaging 14 points per game (9th in the CIAA) while Nya Morris adds 13.4 points per game for 10th in the CIAA.
