Women's Basketball Travels to the University of the D.C. for Matchup Versus the Firebirds

BOWIE, MD --- The Bowie State women's basketball team (2-1) travels to its third road road test Saturday when it visits the University of the District of Columbia (3-0). Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. inside the Dr. Edwin Bancroft Henderson Sports Complex.

The Series
Bowie State leads the series 7-6 overall. The Bulldogs won the last matchup against UDC 70-63 back on Nov. 23, 2022 in Bowie. BSU is 2-4 at the Henderson Sports Complex.

Last Whistle
BSU kept Wilmington (DE) to just 18.2-percent from 3-point range in a 4-for-22 shooting performance on the way to a 65-40 win over the Wildcats on the road Wednesday at the Wilmington Athletic Complex. The Bulldogs (2-1) had two players score in double figures, led by Mia Smith, who had 15 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Anii Harris tacked on 11 points and three steals and Katerra Myers added nine points. Led by Smith's three offensive rebounds, Bowie State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 13 boards that resulted in 16 second chance points. BSU's defense held Wilmington (DE) to only 18.2 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 25.5 percent from the field.

The Opponent
UDC is coming off a 65-60 win at Chestnut Hill on Wednesday. Last season, the Firebirds went 15-13 overall and in 10-6 in the ECC. UDC fell to Staten Island (84-73) during the quarterfinal round of te ECC Championship. UDC returns the All-ECC First Team offensive duo of Latavia Jackson (17.04) and Destiny Ryles (16.96), who went 1-2 in scoring for the conference last season. The Firebirds were picked to finish third in the ECC Coaches Pre-Season Poll.

UDC is averaging 68 points, 49.7 rebounds and 12 assists through three games this season. Tori Williams is the leading scorer, averaging 18.0 points per game and shooting percentage of 45.2-percent. Defensively, the Firebirds are led by Aiyanna Ellis who averages 8.7 rebounds, respectively.

Next Up
Bowie State will travel to Shepherd on Tuesday, Nov. 21 for a 1 p.m. start time in Shepherdstown, WV. The contest will mark the third-straight matchup between the two teams with the series tied at 2-2. The last meeting occurred during the 2022-23 season with BSU winning big, 78-52 in Bowie.
