The Series
Both Bowie State and Shepherd are 4-4 since 2008 but the Bulldogs hope to snap a three game losing skid against the Rams on Sunday. The last outing between the two teams saw a 66-55 win for Shepherd in Bowie, Md., back on Nov. 27, 2022. Both teams are 2-2 entering Sunday's contest.

The Last Whistle
The Bulldogs (2-2) saw all five starters score at least 10 points but it wasn't enough as Bowie State fell short 68-67 at the University of the District of Columbia last weekend. The Bulldogs (2-2) had five players score in double figures, led by Amare Wimbush, who had 16 points. Mark Bradshaw tacked on 14 points, six assists and two steals and Joel Webb helped out with 12 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Offensively, BSU piled up 18 assists on 24 made field goals. Individually, Caleb Johnson was on top of the distribution list for the Bulldogs with seven assists.

BSU's defense was effective at taking away the basketball against the Firebirds, forcing 15 UDC turnovers but the Bulldogs committed 14. Those takeaways turned into 13 points on the offensive end of the floor. Webb's two steals led the way individually for the Bulldogs.

Shepherd
With a 2-2 record, coming off a 66-59 loss to Virginia Union on Nov. 21, the Shepherd Rams are looking to get back into the win column. Against the Panthers, Carson Poffenberger scored 17 points and captured six rebounds while Daniel McClain-Corley added 14 points. The Rams trailed 35-25 at halftime and despite a 34-31 scoring frame in the second half for Shepherd, the Rams committed 12 turnovers and allowed VUU to post a 35-29 edge on the glass. Shepherd connected on 39.6-percent (19-48) of its field goals with a 24.1-percent (7-29) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 77.8-percent (14-18) of their free throws.

Shepherd averages 65 points per game while its opponents have scored 63 points. Four players average double figures in scoring led by McClain-Corley who averages 17.0 points per game.
