ETTRICK, Va. - The Bowie State women's tennis team had their season come to an in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Tournament quarterfinals at the VSU Tennis Complex on the campus of Virginia State Friday afternoon.
The Bulldogs were edged by Winston-Salem State, 4-3 as BSU concludes the 2023 campaign 7-8 overall.
Bowie State held a 1-0 lead after the conclusion of doubles play, junior
Afruica Gentle and sophomore
Kayla Lowery claimed a 6-2 win at the No. 1 doubles while junior
Abner Dickson and senior
Aria Mason teamed up for a 6-3 victory at the No. 2 doubles.Â
In singles, Dickson won at the No. 2 position by the scores of 7-5, 6-0 and Lowery tabbed a 7-5, 6-2 win at the No. 3 slot but WSSU accounted for victories at positions 4-6. The match winning point came down to the wire in three set decision at the No. 1 singles that featured Gentle, she battled her opponent for a 6-4, 5-7 but ultimately fell short 7-6 in the third set as the Rams was able to advance to the semifinals.
