Women’s Basketball Travel to Elizabeth City Saturday for CIAA Matchup

BOWIE, MD – The Bowie State women's basketball team travel to Elizabeth City, N.C. on Saturday, Jan. 27 to face the Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State for a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Division contest. Tipoff begins at 2 p.m. and will be aired live on the CIAA Sports Network.

The Series
  • The Bulldogs and Lady Vikings will meet for the 32nd time since 2009.
  • Bowie State is 20-11 in the last 31 matchups and 7-3 in the last 10 outings.
  • The Bulldogs won the regular season series against ECSU but fell to the Lady Vikings in the CIAA Tournament, 76-54 back on Feb. 23, 2023.
Last Timeout for the Bulldogs 
The Bulldogs (11-8, 5-4 CIAA, 0-2 North) are currently seeking to break a two-game losing skid after falling to Virginia Union on Wednesday night 52-70. Despite the loss, BSU collected 36 rebounds led by Saniha Jacksons nine boards, eight points and three steals. Robyn Howard led the team offensively with 15 points while Anii Harris contributed 10 points and two steals. BSU kept the game close in the first quarter with Virginia Union drawing away in second. The Bulldogs went on a 7-0 run, cutting the deficit to 32-30 with 5:54 left in the third but Virginia Union came back to stretch the lead to 46-36 heading into the fourth and never relinquished the lead.
 
Harris leads the team in scoring at 19.3 point per contest while Beulah Odiong leads the team in rebounding at 5.9 per outing and Howard has dished out 46 assists respectively.
 
Last Timeout for the Lady Vikings 
The Lady Vikings (12-7, 4-5 CIAA, 2-0 North) won their last contest on the road against Lincoln (PA) Wednesday night 64-51. ECSU had two players score in double figures with Dy'Jhanik Armfield scoring 16 points and Alanis Hill chipping in 11 points respectively. The win was the second-straight victory for the Lady Vikings. ECSU is fourth in the CIAA in scoring (67.5) for the 2023-24 season. The team has a fourth-place ranking for 3-point field goal percentages at 31 percent. The defending CIAA champions are on a four-game winning-streak entering Saturday's tilt and hold a 5-4 record at home this season.
