Wimbush Records Double-Double in Bowie State's 84-72 Win at Elizabeth City State

ELIZABETH CITY, NC -- Amare Wimbush collected a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bowie State men's basketball team over the Elizabeth City State Vikings (6-14, 3-7 CIAA, 1-2 North) 84-72 on the road Saturday inside the R.L. Vaughan Center in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Divsion contest.

The win was the first division victory for the Bulldogs this season as the win also snapped a six-game losing skid for the Bulldogs who picked up its second conference win on the season.

In addition to Wimbush's double-double, the Bulldogs (7-14, 2-8 CIAA, 1-2 North) were led by Caleb Johnson, who totaled 17 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals, and by Joel Webb, who added 18 points and eight rebounds.

BSU grabbed 38 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Elizabeth City State's 28, led by Wimbush's 10 boards. The Bulldogs also put in work on the offensive glass, turning 15 rebounds into 15 second chance points. Bowie State took care of business in the paint, recording 28 of its 46 points in the lane while defensely, BSU held the Vikings shooters to only 40-percent from the field.

How It Happened

The Bulldogs then added five points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 38-25 advantage. Bowie State capitalized on seven Elizabeth City State turnovers in the period, turning them into 10 points on the other end of the floor.
