NORFOLK, VA --The Bowie State women's basketball team came up short in a 77-50 exhibition loss to the Old Dominion Monarchs (2-1) on the road inside Chartway Arena Friday evening.
The Bulldogs (1-0) was led by Destiny Ryles with 12 points and two steals.Additionally, Shelby Ricks added nine points and four rebounds and Mia Smith chipped in as well with nine points.
In spite of the loss, Bowie State did a great job disrupting Old Dominion shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Kristin Sterling led the way individually for the Bulldogs with one rejection off the bench.
How It Happened
After falling behind 5-2, Bowie State went on an 8-0 run with 7:36 left in the first quarter to take a 10-5 lead. The Bulldogs then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 24-20.
BSU continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 39-27 halftime deficit.
Old Dominion continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 49-32 advantage before Bowie State went on a 6-0 run to trim its deficit to 49-38 with 3:27 to go in the third. Old Dominion countered and stretched its lead to 57-38 heading into the fourth. Bowie State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 11 points in the paint.
ODU kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 74-44 advantage before Bowie State went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Ayasha Thomas' three, to shrink the deficit to 74-50 with 56 seconds to go in the contest. Old Dominion responded and outscored the Bulldogs the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 77-50. Bowie State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring six of its 12 points in the paint.

Looking Ahead
The Bulldogs will host Frostburg State University on Tuesday, Nov. 19 for its home opener. The game is set for 5:30 p.m. inside the A.C. Jordan Arena.
