Women's Hoops Set to Travel to Bloomfield Thursday

BOWIE, MD – The Bowie State women's basketball team will travel Bloomfield, NJ., to face the Bloomfield College Bears in a non-conference tilt Thursday, Nov.21 on the road inside Bloomfield College Gym. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.

The Series 

  • This is the fifth meeting between the two programs since 2020.
  • Bowie State owns a 3-0 record at home against Bloomfield. 
  • The Bulldogs hold a 4-1 record over BC, as BSU won its last outing (96-65) Jan. 20, 2020.

Last Whistle
The Bulldogs (1-1) lost it's home opener against Frostburg State University (3-2), 69-58 this past Tuesday. Destiny Ryles led the Bulldogs with 17 points, nine rebounds, and three steals, while Mia Smith contributed with 14 points and six rebounds, four blocks and two steals. Defensively, Beulah Odiong lead all players with 11 rebounds in the loss. 

The Bulldogs outscored Frostburg 30-22 in points in the paint. BSU defenders forced 19 turnovers, capitalizing on the Bobcats mistakes to score 15 points. Additionally,
BSU held a five-rebound advantage over FSU, edging them 45-40 on the boards and recorded 13 bench points. 

About Bloomfield 
Bloomfield, a member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division enters Thursday's 2-2, coming off a 71-61 defeat to University of the District of Columbia this past Saturday.Taneshia Tucker led BC with 21 points and four rebounds, while Kamrin Babbs added 11 points, four rebounds, and four assists in the loss.

This is Head Coach Anthony Green second season with Bloomfield College, as the Bears went 7-19 overall and 5-11 in the conference in the 2023-24 season. The 2024-2025 Bears roster is composed of five returning players and 11 newcomers. Bloomfield were selected to finish sixth in the CACC Pre-Season Coaches Poll. 

BC is averaging 63 points, 38.5 rebounds, 13.5 assists, and 10.5 steals through four games this season. Tucker leads the team, averaging 15.3 points and 1.8 blocks per game, while Tamorie Wilson averages 2.8 assist per game. Defensively, the Bears are led by Anisha Able who averages 7.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game, respectively.

Looking Ahead
Bowie State will travel to Wilmington, DE, for a non-conference showdown against Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday, Nov. 23. The game is set for 1:00 p.m. inside the
Joseph West Jones Center.
