Women’s Basketball Set to Host Bluefield State for Senior Day Saturday

BOWIE, MD --- The Bowie State women's basketball program is set to host Bluefield State on Saturday Feb. 17 for Senior Day in its home finale for the 2023-24 slate inside A.C. Jordan Arena. The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) divisional matchup begins promptly at 2 p.m. Following the conclusion of the game, Bowie State will recognize four seniors in Jayla Irvin, Robyn Howard, Saniha Jackson and Katerra Myers for senior day.

Last Timeout for Bowie State
The Bulldogs (12-11, 6-7 CIAA, 1-5 North) snapped a five-game losing skid against Virginia Union Wednesday night, earning a 58-54 victory in the A.C. Jordan Arena. BSU had two players score double figures. Anii Harris led with 17 points and two steals. Jayla Irvin tacked on 10 points and Saniha Jackson controlled the paint with 12 rebounds and two blocks. The Bulldogs defense forced 17 and held VUU to only 29.2 shooting from the floor. Those turnovers resulted in 16 points on the offensive end of the floor. 

Harris Named CIAA Player of the Week
BSU's Harris has been named the CIAA Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. The selection is her third weekly honor this season. Harris scored her 1,000th career point this week against Virginia State, finishing with a combined 33 points for the week. She recorded a week-high 21 points to go along with five rebounds and two steals against Elizabeth City State.

The junior guard was 9-of-14 from the free throw line against the Lady Vikings. She had led the CIAA in scoring this season (19.5 ppg). The Ellicott City, Md., native was named to the Preseason All-CIAA Team earlier this year and currently ranks 11th all-time on the Bulldogs scoring list.
 
Last Timeout for Bluefield State 
The Big Blue (12-10, 67 CIAA, 2-4 North) won on their last game against the Virginia State Trojans 64-49 on Wednesday. Bluefield State had four players score double figures. Katrina Davis led with 16 points and six rebounds. Jayla Sample tacked on 15 points with nine rebounds. Thomas Gabrielle contributed 11 points off the bench with six rebounds while Shalance Montoya added 10 points and five rebounds. Bluefield State currently ranks fifth in the Northern Division of the conference. 
 
Looking Ahead
Bowie State will travel to Bluefield, WV to face Bluefield State from Ned E. Shot Gym on Monday Feb. 19. The matchup is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. (ET).
