LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA --Â Jayla Irvin totaled 20 points and Anii Harris added 20, but the Bulldogs fell to the Lincoln (PA) Lions 64-54 on the road Saturday, Feb. 24.
Irvin and Harris led the Bulldogs (13-14, 7-10 CIAA, 2-8 North) in double figure scoring. Irvin tacked on four steals and Harris added five rebounds and three steals. Saniha Jackson also helped out with six points, seven rebounds and three steals.
BSU pulled down 11 boards that resulted in eight second chance points. The Bulldogs defense held Lincoln (PA)(11-13, 7-10 CIAA, 4-6 North) to only 20 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
How It Happened
Bowie State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 18-8 at the end of the first quarter.
The Bulldogs then cut the Lions lead to 20-11 before going on a 7-0 run to narrow its deficit to 20-18. Lincoln (PA) responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Bulldogs trailing 25-19 heading into halftime.
Lincoln (PA) continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 27-19 advantage before the Bulldogs went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a three from Irvin, to trim its deficit to 27-24 with 7:12 to go in the third. Lincoln (PA) countered and stretched its lead to 46-36 heading into the fourth. BSU played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 17 points in the paint.
Lincoln (PA) kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 60-45 advantage before Bowie State went on a 9-0 run, finished off by Harris' jumper, to shrink the deficit to 60-54 with 16 seconds to go in the contest. Lincoln (PA) responded and outscored the Bulldogs the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 64-54. BSU took advantage of eight Lincoln (PA) turnovers in the quarter, scoring eight points off of those takeaways.
