Bowie State and Livingstone to Battle in the Opening Round of CIAA Tourney Tuesday

BALTIMORE, MD — No. 4 Bowie State men's basketball team will take on South No. 5 Livingstone College during the opening round of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Men's Basketball Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 27th at 6:40 p.m inside the CFG Bank Arena. 

This matchup will be broadcast exclusively on ESPN+ (https://plus.espn.com/) with the championship game also being shown on ESPNU.

About Bowie State
No. 4 Bowie State (11-16, 6-11 CIAA, 5-5 North) closed out the season strong with a win against the North No. 1 Lincoln University (PA), 75-73. Anthony Carpenter hit the game-winning three with 17 seconds left to secure BSU's fourth-place finish in the North Division standings. BSU had three players score in double-figures with Warren Mouganda leading the way with 27 points. Carpenter notched a double-double with 19 points and 10 assists while Joel Webb was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine and 10 points respectively.

Going into the tournament, the Bulldogs' Kevon Corley was named 2023-2024 CIAA Rookie of the Year. The award is the first under head coach Darrell Brooks in his tenure with the program.

Mouganda leads the Bulldogs in scoring (14.1 ppg) while Webb leads the CIAA in field goal percentage (62.4 percent) and the team in rebounds (6.0).

About Livingstone 
No. 5 Livingstone (12-15, 8-10 CIAA, 5-7 South) dropped their regular-season finale to No. 3 Winston-Salem State University, 77-57. The Blue Bears had three players score in double figures. James Nipper led the way with 14 points coming off the bench, Khyree Temple added 13 points and 4 assists and Levar Allen added 12 respectively. Livingstone has dropped their last three games going into the tournament. The Blue Bears are second in the conference holding opponents to 30.3 percent shooting from behind the arc.  

At Stake
The winner between Bowie State and Livingstone will face the South No. 1 Fayetteville State on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 6:40 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
