BALTIMORE, MD --- The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announced its 2023-24 Men's Basketball All-CIAA Teams and major award winners. Bowie State's freshman forward Kevon Corley was named the Rookie of the Year. The award is the first under head coach Darrell Brooks in his tenure at the helm of the program. 

Corley, a freshman from Glenarden, Md., has made a impact during the second half of the season for the Bulldogs and during his rookie campaign. The 6-foot-6 forward averages 6.7 points, 2.1 rebounds while shooting 46-percent from the field, 41-percent from the 3-point line and a 58-percent free throw shooter for BSU this season. Corley has had seven games in double digit scoring including a season-high 21 points against Lincoln (PA). Corley had recorded five games with at least four rebounds defensively including a season-high six boards twice.

His best game was against the Bears which was his first career start, scoring 16 points, five rebounds on 6-11 shooting and 4-8 from the 3-point line. He has appeared in 23 games and started eight for the Bulldogs as a true freshman. Additionally, Corley was won CIAA Rookie of the Week five times this season.

The Bowie State men's basketball team (11-16, 6-11 CIAA) finished 5-5 in the Northern Division this season, earning the No. 5 seed from the North and will take on the No. 5 seed of the South Livingstone (12-14, 8-9 CIAA, 5-6 South) on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 6:40 p.m. The winner of the opening round will face the No. 1 seed Fayetteville State (South) on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 6:40 p.m. from CFG Bank Arena.
