Bowie State Returns to CIAA Play Against Lincoln (PA) Saturday Afternoon

BOWIE, MD—The Bowie State men's basketball team travels to the city of brotherly love to face off in a Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association (CIAA) match-up against Lincoln University (PA) on Saturday, Jan 18th at 4:00 p.m. inside Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia, PA. This match-up will be streamed live on the CIAA Sports Network

• The Bulldogs have won three of the last five meetings against the Lions entering Saturday's match-up.  
• In their last meeting, Bowie State defeated Lincoln (PA) 75-73 at Lincoln University, PA.   
 
• BSU has a record of 16-8 against LUPA since 2008. 
   
 

Scouting Bowie State  
 
Bowie State (9-8, 1-4 CIAA) is looking to pick up its second conference win against Lincoln University. In the first half of the season, BSU is a team known for playing the passing lanes and protecting the paint. The Bulldogs are ranked second in the CIAA in blocks per game (4.6) while being ranked fourth in steals per game (9.6). BSU also shares the ball well, as they are ranked fourth in the conference in assists per game (14.2). Bowie State's leading scoring and rebounder is Amare Wimbush, who averages 11.3 ppg and 6.1 rebounds. Elijah Davis' 4.2 assists per game is ranked fourth in the CIAA. Davis also is ranked second in the conference in steals per game (2.6). 
  
 

Last Time Out for the Bulldogs  
 
The Bulldogs upset Division I competitor Howard University, 76-73, inside of Burr Gymnasium in Washington, DC. Bowie State was led by Warren Mouganda, who scored 23 points with eight rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Justin Morrisey and Victory Naboya both tallied 12 points, rounding out the double-digit scorers. The Bulldogs knocked down a season-high 11 three-pointers, shooting 45.8 percent from deep. BSU also scored 32 points inside the painted area compared to HU's 22 points in the paint. Bowie State also dominated the turnover battle forcing 16 turnovers while only giving up the ball nine times. 

Scouting Lincoln  
Lincoln (11-6, 6-0 CIAA) is looking to extend their conference winning streak to seven games as they prepare to face Bowie State. The Lions have the second-best defense in CIAA, only allowing 68.1 ppg and holding teams to shooting 40.3 percent from the field throughout the season. LUPA is also leading the conference in rebounds, grabbing 39.2 rebounds per game. Lincoln (PA) is led offensively by Bakir Cleveland, who averages 13.8 ppg. Ethan Garita is second on the team in scoring with 13.5 ppg while leading the team in rebounds, averaging 7.5 per game. LUPA also has the reigning CIAA Defensive Player of the Week in Peter Sorber, and Rookie of the Week, Jahmire Brewer.  

Last Time Out for the Lions
 
The Lions enter Saturday's match-up after getting back into the win column against CIAA competitor Winston-Salem State, 67-59, inside of CE Gaines Center in Winston-Salem, NC, Monday night. Reggie Hudson led the way, scoring 20 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Sorber tallied a double-double, scoring 12 points while hauling down 10 rebounds. LUPA attempted 26 shots from the free throw line, knocking down 20, which bested the mark of WSSU, who only converted nine shots from the charity stripe. Lincoln (PA) closed this game out with an 11-3 run, securing their victory.

Bowie State will return home for Staff Appreciation Day against Virginia Union University on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 7:30 p.m. inside A.C. Jordan Arena in Bowie, MD. The Bulldogs are 12-20 all-time against the Panthers.
