Bowie State Falls 62-50 to Virginia Union

BOWIE, MD --The Bowie State men's basketball team got a 22-point showing from the bench, but fell 62-50 to the Virginia Union Panthers (8-9, 2-3 CIAA, 1-1 North)  at home Wednesday in A.C. Jordan Arena.

The Bulldogs (9-9, 1-5 CIAA, 0-2 North) had two players score in double figures, led by Elijah Davis, who had 13 points, five assists and two steals. Justin Morrisey added 10 points and Victory Naboya added six points, two steals and three blocks. Bowie State did a great job disrupting Virginia Union shots in the contest, coming away with seven blocks. Naboya's three rejections led the way individually for the Bulldogs.

How It Happened
The game opened with high energy but saw the Bulldogs struggling to find their rhythm offensively. Virginia Union capitalized on Bowie's turnovers, scoring 15 points off the Bulldogs' mistakes in the first half. Elijah Davis provided a spark for Bowie early, contributing key defensive plays and assists, but the team's shooting struggles left them trailing 27-14 at halftime. Bowie State roared back in the second half, energized by Davis and forward Victory Naboya, who anchored the defense with 3 blocks and added timely baskets. Justin Morrisey contributed hitting two three-pointers that ignited the crowd. Amare Wimbush and Corey Barnes brought energy off the bench. Bowie State narrowed its deficit to 41-31 before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Kevon Corley's three, to shrink the deficit to 41-36 with 10:30 to go in the contest. Virginia Union responded and outscored the Bulldogs the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 62-50. Bowie State took care of business in the paint, recording 18 of its 36 points in the lane.
