Men's Basketball to Tussle With Bluefield State for Alumni Appreciation Day

BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State men's basketball team will host Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association (CIAA) Northern Division foe Bluefield State University on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 4:00 p.m. inside A.C. Jordan Arena.

Clear Bag Policy 

  
Fans will only be able to carry the following style and size bag into the stadium, all of which are subject to search. 
  

• Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12" 
  

• One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar) 
  

• Small clutch bags measuring 4.5" x 6.5" with or without a handle or strap 
  

• All other bags will not be permitted. A list of prohibited bags includes but is not limited to purses, backpacks, drawstring bags that are not clear, briefcases, coolers, fanny packs, luggage, computer bags, camera bags, binocular cases, and diaper bags. Guests are encouraged to return unauthorized items to their vehicles. Bowie State University cannot safeguard items that are not permitted into the stadium.

Scouting Bowie State  

  
Bowie State (11-10, 3-6 CIAA, 2-2 North) is looking to extend its winning streak heading into their match-up against Bluefield State. So far this season, BSU is a team known for playing in the passing lanes and protecting the paint. The Bulldogs are ranked third in the CIAA in blocks per game (4.7) while being ranked fourth in steals per game (9.2). BSU also shares the ball well, as they are ranked fourth in the conference in assists per game (14.2). Bowie State's leading scoring and rebounder isAmare Wimbush, who averages 11.3 ppg and 6.5 rebounds while Elijah Davis' 4.9 assists per game is ranked third in the CIAA. Davis also is second in the conference in steals per game (2.3). 
  
   

Last Time Out for the Bulldogs  

  
The Bulldogs dominated their last match-up on the road against Virginia State, 85-65, inside VSU Multipurpose Center Wednesday night in Petersburg, Va. Justin Morrisey led the way for BSU, scoring a career high 34 points while dishing out two assists and grabbing three rebounds - he was 11-of-12 from the field. Wimbush also chipped in with 11 points while hauling in eight rebounds. BSU also took advantage of Virginia State's sloppy play, scoring 17 points off turnovers. 
   
 
Scouting Bluefield State  

  
Bluefield State (12-7, 5-4 CIAA, 2-2 North) is the top high-powered offenses in the CIAA averaging 92.2 ppg which has them ranked first in the conference. B-State is efficient as a team knocking down 46.9 percent of the field goals and 71-percent of their free-throw attempts placing them top 3 in the conference in both categories. Jordan Hinds leads the CIAA and Big Blue in scoring averaging 19.9 ppg, while tallying three assists per game, respectively. Romeo Aquino is second on the team in scoring, averaging 14.8 ppg while leading the team in free-throw percentage at 71.3 percent throughout 19 games.  
  
 
Last Time Out for the Big Blue 

B-State is coming off a big-time Northern Division match-up against the Lions of Lincoln (PA) University, securing the win 78-65, inside of Ned Shott Gymnasium in Bluefield, W.V. Hinds led the way for Big Blue scoring 19 points with nine rebounds and three assists. Rell Williams had an impressive game with 17 points, four rebounds, and five assists while Aquino rounded out the double-digit performers, scoring 14 points with nine rebounds. The Big Blue scored 46 points inside the paint while receiving 17 points off turnovers.

Bowie State will get back on the road when they travel down south to face Winston-Salem State on Monday, Feb. 3, at 7:30 p.m. inside of CE Gaines Center for its final cross division tilt. The Bulldogs have a record of 7-8 against the Rams entering that contest after dropping their last meeting, 76-55 on Dec. 14, 2023, against WSSU.
