BOWIE, MD — The Bowie State men's basketball team (1-5) earned a commanding 93-63 win over Cheyney University on Wednesday afternoon at A.C. Jordan Arena. The Bulldogs controlled the game on both ends of the floor, outscoring the Wolves 42-20 in the paint and totaling seven blocks in one of their strongest defensive efforts of the season.
Bowie State opened the first half with pace and efficiency. KJ West sparked the Bulldogs early with a layup at the 18:20 mark, followed moments later by a three-pointer that pushed the momentum firmly in BSU's favor. The Bulldogs continued to execute in transition and on the perimeter, building a 44-30 halftime lead. The half closed with a highlight moment as Guy Fauntleroy buried a buzzer-beating three-pointer off an assist from West, energizing the home crowd.
The Bulldogs widened the margin in the second half, beginning with two free throws from Jamel Melvin just 16 seconds in. Melvin followed with a jumper to stretch the lead to 48-30 before Fauntleroy knocked down another three-pointer at 18:24. Bowie State remained in full control as Jaiden McGhee scored in transition at 15:51 and continued to dominate on the glass, ultimately recording a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Key scoring contributions from Amir Shaheed and additional second-half baskets from McGhee helped the Bulldogs coast to the 93-63 victory.
Following the game, BSU Media Intern Eric Scott spoke with Head Coach Darrell Brooks about the team's performance. "I thought it was a good team win and we did a terrific job defensively and on the boards," Brooks stated. "We talked about being tougher, and we did that today. We're ready to enjoy Thanksgiving tomorrow and prepare on Friday for Saturday's contest."
