MILLERSVILLE, PA — The Bowie State women's basketball team (5-1) defeated Millersville University on Monday, 70-45, inside Pucillo Gymnasium, bolstered by 26 points off turnovers and 10 blocks.
After MU opened the game with a quick layup, Bowie State answered immediately with a three-pointer from Mia Smith to take its first lead. The Bulldogs controlled the pace throughout the first quarter, using Smith's second three and a three-point play from Chaniya Taylor to build a 22-10 advantage after one.
Bowie State maintained its momentum in the second quarter, outscoring Millersville 14-13. Hannah Wilkerson sparked the frame with a fast-break layup following a steal from Smith, while Sydney Anthony added another transition basket to extend the Bulldogs' lead 36-23 into halftime.
The Bulldogs put the game out of reach in the third quarter, dominating 19-6. Kristin Sterling helped anchor the defensive effort with a key block and rebound sequence, while Smith continued her strong night with a fast-break finish. Afia Owusu-Mensah capped the quarter with a buzzer-beater jumper to give BSU a 55-29 lead.
BSU closed out the win in the fourth quarter. Taylor knocked down an early jumper, Wilkerson added a three-pointer, and Taylor Timms connected from deep late to keep the Bulldogs comfortably ahead.
