Women's Basketball Cruise to Statement Win at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, PA — The Bowie State women's basketball team (6-1) powered past Shippensburg University on Friday night, earning a dominant 71-37 road win inside Heiges Field House. The Bulldogs controlled nearly every phase of the game, owning a 45-25 rebounding margin, scoring 32 points in the paint, and forcing 24 turnovers in a complete team performance.

Bowie State set the tone early, starting with a three-pointer from Malaka Cobb less than a minute into the game. The Bulldogs locked in defensively from the jump, holding the Raiders to just two field goals in the opening quarter. A layup and free throw from Mia Smith helped BSU take a 14-6 lead after the first.

The momentum carried into the second quarter. Sydney Anthony's layup and an assist to Hannah Wilkerson, who knocked down one of her four threes helped stretch the lead. Wilkerson totaled nine points in the period as BSU outscored Shippensburg 18-10 and took a 32-16 advantage into halftime.

The Bulldogs continued to push the pace in the third. Afia Owusu-Mensah sparked the offense with back-to-back fast-break layups, while Gabrielle Clary added a jumper and a layup to build on the lead. SU committed 10 turnovers in the quarter, allowing BSU to roll into the fourth up 46-25.

Bowie State closed out the game in dominant fashion, pouring in 25 points in the final frame. Taylor Timms provided key baskets, including a layup and free throw, while Jayla Tucker drilled a three to help seal the victory. The Bulldogs' defensive pressure and balanced scoring effort pushed the lead to as many as 34 as they secured the 71-37 win.
