Bulldogs Drop Home Finale to Lincoln (PA), 52-51

BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State women's basketball team got a 21-point showing from the bench, but fell short 52-51 to Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) foe the  Lincoln (PA) University Lions (10-16, 6-9 CIAA, 2-7 North) Saturday afternoon inside the A.C. Jordan Arena in its home finale.

The Bulldogs' (17-9, 11-5 CIAA, 6-4 North) Shelby Ricks led BSU with 14 points and two rebounds while Beulah Odiong recorded eight points, season-high 15 rebounds and four steals.Additionally, Destiny Ryles helped out with seven points.

Bowie State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 12 boards that resulted in 11 second chance points. BSU forced 13 Lincoln (PA) turnovers. The Bulldogs turned those takeaways into 10 points on the other end of the floor. Odiong's four steals led the way for Bowie State.

How It Happened
BSU kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 16-14. The Bulldogs continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 22-19 halftime deficit.

Bowie State started to cut into the deficit after halftime, bringing it to 37-35 by the end of the third quarter. BSU played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 16 points in the paint.

The Bulldogs came out of the third quarter break clicking on all cylinders, going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Odiong's layup, to seize a 41-37 lead with 7:15 to go in the contest. Lincoln (PA) re-asserted control, outscoring BSU 15-10 the rest of the way to hand Bowie State the 52-51 loss. The Bulldogs took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 12 of its 16 points in the paint.
