Bowie State and Winston-Salem State to Meet in Opening Round of CIAA Tournament Tuesday

Baltimore, MD --- No. 3 North Bowie State women's basketball program will battle No. 6 South the Winston-Salem State Rams in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) rematch of last year's opening round in the 2025 CIAA Woman's Basketball Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 4:30 p.m. inside the CFG Bank Arena. 
 
All 22 games will be broadcast exclusively on ESPN+ (https://plus.espn.com/) with the championship games also being shown on ESPNU.

Last Timeout for the Bulldogs
No. 3 Bowie State (17-9, 11-5 CIAA, 6-4 North) finished the season with a loss against the No. 5 Lincoln (PA) University Lions (10-16, 6-9 CIAA, 2-7 North) 52-51 at home last Saturday. The Bulldogs were led by Shelby Ricks who racked up 14 points and two rebounds. Ricks' two rebounds would register her 500 career rebounds. Additionally, Beulah Odiong contributed with eight points, a season-high 15 rebounds, and four steals. BSU connected 80.0 percent of its free throw line attempts, going 8-for-10 from the line. The Bulldogs held a 42-29 rebounding advantage over LUPA despite the loss. BSU ranks second in team free throw percentage, shooting 69.1 percent from the line, and fourth in defensive disruptions with a 59.7 rating.  

Ryles Named All-CIAA Frontcourt 
Destiny Ryles was named to the All-CIAA Team for the 2024-25 Regular Season. The Baltimore, Md., native was the offensive catalyst for the Bulldogs, leading the team in scoring with 18.0 points per game, while also adding 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 4.2 steals per contest.Her ability to create offense, knock down shots, and apply relentless defensive pressure made her one of the most complete guards in the CIAA. She elevated her performance in conference play, averaging 18.6 points per game, along with an improved 36.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Her best game was against Goldey-Beacom, scoring 40 points, three rebounds on 11-16 shooting and 15-17 from the free throw line. She has appeared in 26 games and started 25 for the Bulldogs this season. Ryle's is CIAA's best in steals (3.4), second in scoring with (18.2), fourth in the league in assists with (3.2) and fifth in the conference for free throw percentage (73%).

About the Rams
No. 6 Winston-Salem State (7-19, 3–13 CIAA, 1-5 South) dropped their regular-season finale to No. 2 Livingstone State, 55-66. The Rams were led by Christiana McLean with 13 points and five rebounds, while La'Niya Simes recorded a double-double recording 10 points and 12 rebounds.The Rams are on a three game losing skid going into the tournament. WSSU is fourth in the conference in team offensive rebounds averaging 14.4 rebounds per game, respectively. 
 
At Stake 
The winner between the Bulldogs and Rams will face the No. 2 seed (South) Livingstone on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 6:00 p.m. in the second opening round.
