Bulldogs Bested Livingstone in CIAA Tournament Opening Round

BALTIMORE, MD --Caleb Johnson hit a shot with just five seconds left in the game to put the Bowie State men's basketball team (16-13) ahead for good in a 68-64 win against the No. 4 (South) seed Livingstone Blue Bears (12-16) at CFG Bank Arena Tuesday night during the opening round of the 2025 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Men's Basketball Touranment.

The Bulldogs had two players score in double figures, led by Elijah Davis, who had 27 points. Amare Wimbush tacked on 14 points and Johnson added six points, six rebounds and four steals.

BSU's defense held Livingstone to only 0 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 31.7 percent from the field.

How It Happened
After falling behind, Bowie State went on an 8-0 run with 18:02 left in the first half to take a 9-3 lead. The Bulldogs then added five points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 39-28 advantage. BSU got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 11 of its 39 total points.

LC proceeded to take a 51-50 lead before Bowie State went on a 10-0 run to seize a 60-51 lead with 2:56 to go in the contest. The Blue Bears narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Bulldogs still held on for the 68-64 win. Bowie State capitalized on 11 Livingstone turnovers in the period, collecting 11 points off those turnovers.

» The Bulldogs held the Blue Bears to only 31.7 percent shooting from the field.
» Bowie State had a great day defensively, holding Livingstone to 0 percent from beyond the arc on 10 attempts.
» BSU's defense forced 14 turnovers.

» Davis led the Bulldogs with a game-high 27 points and was named the Food Lion Most Valuable Player.

The Bulldogs will return to the court on Wednesday, Feb. 26 for a quarterfinal showdown against No. 1 seed (North) Virginia State at 6:40 p.m., inside CFG Bank Arena. The winner will advance to the semifinals to face No. 2 seed (South) Claflin, who awaits the winner of game five between No. 3 Lincoln (PA) and No. 6 (South) Winston-Salem State. The semifinal matchup is set for Friday, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m.
