ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. --The Bowie State men's basketball team (14-10, 6-6 CIAA, 4-2 North) shot 50-percent from three-point range on the way to a 78-74 victory against the Elizabeth City State Vikings (10-12, 3-9 CIAA, 1-5 North) on the road Saturday in R.L. Vaughan Center.
The Bulldogs had four players score in double figures, led by Amare Wimbush, who had 20 points and eight rebounds. Elijah Davis added 15 points, six rebounds and nine assists, the junior Justin Morrisey chipped in as well with 10 points and the Temple Hills, Md. native Victory Naboya added 10 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.
BSU did a great job taking care of the basketball, dishing out 15 assists while turning the ball over seven times. Davis' nine assists were the most for the Bulldogs. Warren Mouganda also contributed with three assists of his own.
Bowie State did a great job disrupting the Vikings shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Naboya's two rejections led the way individually for the Bulldogs.
How It Happened
After falling behind 28-27, BSU went on an 8-0 run with 5:34 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Naboya, to take a 35-28 lead. The Bulldogs then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 41-33 advantage. Bowie State did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 28 of its 41 points close to the basket.
The Bulldogs kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Caleb Johnson's three, to grow the lead to 59-50 with 9:59 to go in the contest. The Vikings narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Bulldogs still held on for the 78-74 win.
