BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State women's tennis team (2-5) suffered a loss on their road trip to Shepherd on Saturday.
In doubles play, Torrienne Emery and Nakari Blunt teamed up for the first time this season but were narrowly defeated 6-4. Similarly, Tamia Byrom and Verneice Herndon also played together for the first time but fell 7-5 to the Rams' duo.
In singles, Emery continued high level play at the No. 1 spot, securing a 6-3, 6-1, 10-8 triumph. Blunt fought hard at No. 2 but was edged out 6-4, 6-4. Meanwhile, at No. 3, Herndon struggled to find her rhythm, falling 6-0, 6-0 but Byrom was able to dominate at the No. 4 slot, punching in a 6-2, 6-1 win.
The Rams earned points through default wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions.
