Brooks Selected to Coach in HBCU All-Star Dream Classic at Rucker Park

BOWIE, MD. – Bowie State University head men's basketball coach Darrell Brooks has been selected to coach in the HBCU All-Star Dream Classic, set for August 9 at the iconic Rucker Park in Harlem, New York.

"First of all, it's a tremendous honor to be selected for this position," said Brooks. "Growing up in New York, I remember going down to Rucker Park and watching legends like Nate Archibald, Dr. J, and Joe Hammond. To now have the opportunity to coach in that same park is something I never imagined."

Coach Brooks enters the 2025–26 season with 17 years of collegiate coaching experience and has led the Bulldogs to an overall record of 243-219 (132-98 in the CIAA), capturing five Northern Division Championships as well two CIAA Tournament Championships (2013 and 2017). Under Brooks leadership, Bowie State has appeared in three NCAA Regional Tournaments, advancing to regional semifinals in 2011. Brooks has been named the Bowie State Male Coach of the Year four times (2010-2011, 2011-2012, 2012-2013 and 2014-2015) and was voted CIAA Coach of the Year (2014-2015).

"I'm really excited," stated Brooks. "It's an All-Star game, so I want the players to have fun and play hard, but they're keeping score, so we're going to try to win!"

Brooks became the all-time winningest coach in BSU's men's basketball history, earning his 200th career victory with a win over Elizabeth City State on Jan. 29, 2022.
