BOWIE, MD — The Bowie State men's basketball team (4-10, 2-1 CIAA) opens the 2026 calendar year with momentum as the Bulldogs host Shaw University (9-2, 1-2 CIAA) in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association matchup Saturday, Jan. 3, inside A.C. Jordan Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Clear Bag Policy
Fans may bring only the following items into the arena (all items are subject to search):
- Clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bags not exceeding 12 x 6 x 12 inches
- One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (e.g., Ziploc)
- Small clutch bags measuring 4.5 x 6.5 inches, with or without a strap
All other bags are prohibited, including purses, backpacks, non-clear drawstring bags, briefcases, coolers, fanny packs, luggage, computer bags, camera bags, binocular cases, and diaper bags. Fans are encouraged to return unapproved items to their vehicles. Bowie State University cannot store items not permitted in the arena.

Scouting Bowie State
The Bulldogs are a defense-oriented team, averaging 8.8 steals and 4.5 blocks per game, ranking among the CIAA's most disruptive defensive units. Thomas, III anchors the paint, while West and Fauntleroy apply steady pressure in passing lanes to generate turnovers and transition opportunities.
Offensively, BSU averages nearly 70 points per game and is most effective when the offense runs through West, who leads the team in assists. McGhee provides consistent perimeter and off-the-dribble scoring, while Fauntleroy's 3-point shooting stretches defenses. The Bulldogs average 5.7 made 3-pointers per game and 31.4 rebounds, with guards contributing on the glass to ignite the break.
Scouting Shaw
Shaw enters with a 9-2 overall record and a 1-2 mark in CIAA play. The Bears average 85.8 points per game while shooting 49.7% from the field, ranking among the conference's most efficient offenses.
Avery Huggins leads Shaw at 16.2 points per game, shooting 50% from the floor and 37.2% from beyond the arc. Isaiah Buckley (12.7 ppg) and Dreveon Scott (12.6 ppg) provide additional scoring, with Scott converting at a team-best 55.4%. Darius Abraham averages 9.8 points per game and shoots 42.2% from 3-point range.
The Bears average 15.5 assists per game and carry a plus-2.8 turnover margin, forcing 17 turnovers per contest. Defensively, SU averages 9.5 steals and five blocks per game and is coming off a 120-72 home victory over Virginia University of Lynchburg, its highest-scoring performance of the season.
