Bulldogs Earn Hard-Fought Win Over Elizabeth City State

BOWIE, MD — The Bowie State men's basketball team (6-19, 4-10 CIAA, 1-6 North) defended home court Wednesday night with a hard-fought 77-73 victory over Elizabeth City State inside A.C. Jordan Arena.

The Bulldogs used their energy in transition to make the difference, scoring 15 fast-break points in a game that featured multiple momentum swings.

Bowie State found itself trailing early but responded midway through the first half. After Nazaire Hinton's tip-in at the 10:05 mark tied the game at 13-13, the Bulldogs settled in despite ECSU building a brief 21-13 advantage. BSU closed the half on a strong run and took a 35-33 lead into the break after Joseph Allen threw down an emphatic dunk just before the buzzer.

The second half remained tight throughout, with neither team able to create much separation. KJ West delivered a clutch layup with 1:37 remaining to give Bowie State a 72-71 edge. Moments later, Guy Fauntleroy knocked down a key three-pointer with 42 seconds left to push the lead to four.

Elizabeth City State answered with two late free throws to cut the deficit, but Fauntleroy calmly sank two free throws in the final seconds to secure the 77-73 win for the Bulldogs.

Following the game, BSU Media Intern Eric Scott caught up with head coach Darrell Brooks to discuss the victory.

"I'm feeling great," said Brooks. "Our guys really battled, and we talked about playing with a sense of urgency. Tonight, they did that."
