BLUEFIELD, W.V. — The Bowie State men's basketball team fell just short in a 75–73 CIAA setback to Bluefield State on Saturday afternoon inside Ned Shott Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs (5–18, 3–9 CIAA, 0–6 North) erased much of a 21-point halftime deficit with a strong second half but were unable to complete the comeback after trailing 44–23 at the break. Bowie State outscored the Big Blue 50–31 after halftime.
Bluefield State set the tone early, building separation behind efficient perimeter shooting and points at the free-throw line. Myles Pierre connected on multiple 3-pointers to spark the home team, while Anthony Davenport added points from both the field and the stripe. Bowie State found first-half offense from a Jaiden McGhee 3-pointer and a pair of dunks by Joseph Allen but struggled to close the gap before intermission.
BSU opened the second half with renewed energy, trimming the deficit behind aggressive play on both ends. Jailin Landis led the surge with timely free throws and a late 3-pointer, while Charles Thomas, III added a dunk and a triple as the Bulldogs pulled within striking distance. Despite the rally, BState answered from the free-throw line down the stretch to secure the two-point win.
