BLUEFIELD, W.V. — The Bowie State women's tennis team (0-7, 0-6 CIAA) competed in the CIAA Round-Up hosted by Bluefield State University, taking part in four matches over a two-day stretch in Bluefield, West Virginia.
On day one, the Bulldogs opened play against Johnson C. Smith, falling in doubles action at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, 0–6. In singles competition, BSU dropped matches at the No. 1 through No. 5 spots, while the No. 6 position was decided by forfeit.
In the second match of the day, the Bulldogs faced Winston-Salem State and battled throughout but ultimately fell 4–0. In doubles play, the No. 1 pair of
Nakari Blunt and
Payton Swinton dropped a 1–4 decision, while
Verneice Herndon and
Asia Johnson fell 1–6 at No. 2. At the No. 3 spot,
Mil'lanni Marte and
Daisy Pentorn were defeated 0–6. WSSU completed the sweep in singles, claiming victories at all six positions.
Bowie State closed out day one against Livingstone, putting together its most competitive performance of the weekend in a narrow 4–3 loss. The Bulldogs were swept in doubles at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, with the No. 3 position decided by forfeit. In singles play, Bowie State dropped the top three matches before Swinton earned her first win of the season with a dominant 6–0 victory at the No. 4 position. Livingstone forfeited the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, rounding out the match score.
On day two, the Bulldogs faced the defending CIAA champion Shaw but were swept 4–0, closing out the weekend.

The Bulldogs will travel to Richmond, Va., to take on Virginia Union for a divisional match-up. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the Arthur Ashe Courts in Battery Park.
