Bulldogs Force 39 Turnovers, Roll Past Central State to Advance to BCIC Championship

PETERSBURG, VA — The Bowie State women's basketball team delivered a dominant all-around performance on Friday, defeating Central State, 76-42, at the VSU Multipurpose Center.

The Bulldogs forced 39 turnovers and converted them into 34 points, setting the tone early and maintaining control throughout against the Marauders.

Bowie State took command in the opening quarter, using defensive pressure to build a 15-5 lead. Malaka Cobb opened the scoring at the free-throw line before Chaniya Taylor added a tip-in. After Central State briefly cut into the deficit, the Bulldogs responded with a 10-2 stretch, capped by free throws from Sydney Anthony in the final seconds.

The Bulldogs extended their advantage in the second quarter, fueled by a 10-0 run. Anthony converted a three-point play during the surge, while Kristin Sterling added a three-pointer and a pair of free throws. BSU carried a 33-16 lead into halftime.

Bowie State continued to control the game in the third quarter behind strong interior play and defensive intensity. Sterling and Mia Smith each contributed key baskets, while the Bulldogs limited CSU's offensive rhythm. A free throw by Gabriella Clary helped push the lead to 49-26 heading into the final period.

The Bulldogs closed out the game with a 27-point fourth quarter, highlighted by a three-pointer from Smith and consistent free-throw shooting from Sterling, who was perfect at the line. Bowie State's balanced scoring and defensive rebounding effort held Central State to just six field goals in the final quarter.
