PROSPECTIVE STUDENT-ATHLETES

BECOMING A STUDENT-ATHLETE AT BOWIE STATE UNIVERSITY

  • Meet initial or transfer eligibility requirements
  • Must submit valid physical for practice and participation
  • Must submit sickle cell testing documentation for practice and competition
  • Must complete all NCAA, Athletic and Sports Medicine forms for practice and competition

INITIAL ELIGIBILITY

To participate in collegiate athletics PSA must register with the NCAA Initial Eligibility Center to have their academic and amateurism status determined. PSA must meet the academic and test score requirements to be eligible to compete, practice and receive athletic financial aid.

  • Academic requirement – 2.0 GPA in 14 core courses (16 core courses effective August 2013)
  • Test score requirement - SAT minimum 820 (math and verbal) - ACT 68 composite sum score
  • Must receive final amateurism certification  for practice and competition

TRANSFERS

To participate in collegiate athletics transfer PSA must:

  • Meet Two-Year or Four-Year Transfer Legislation for practice, competition or financial aid
  • Must receive final amateurism certification for practice and competition
  • Four-Year Transfers must provide permission to contact verification prior to contact with BSU coaches
  • Provide official transcripts of all colleges attended (Two-Year or Four-Year)
  • Complete the Account for Time Form
  • Transfer Checklist


Permission to Contact - If you are a student-athlete enrolled at another four-year institution or if you have been enrolled at another four-year institution in the last year, NCAA rules and regulations strictly prohibit Bowie State University (BSU) coaches or athletics staff members from having any communication (phone, email, written, text message, etc.) with you, directly or indirectly, until that first institution grants our institution permission to contact you. You may obtain this permission to contact from the athletics compliance office or the director of athletics at your current or previous institution. Once you obtain this release, you may fax the release to BSU Athletic Compliance Office at (301) 860-3585. Upon receipt of the permission to contact or release, BSU coaches will be able to contact you.

CIAA Two-Year Transfer Rule – A student entering a CIAA school who was recruited, received athletics aid, practiced and/or competed and then transfers to another CIAA school, is required to complete two full academic years at the CIAA school transferred to before becoming eligible to compete or receive benefits from the institution.
