Andrew R. Dean-Neil enters his second stint with the Bowie State University track & field program, serving as a Volunteer Assistant Coach specializing in the sprints, hurdles, and relay events.
Dean-Neil returned to Bowie State during the 2024-25 season, where he assisted the Bulldogs' coaching staff with athlete development, sprint and hurdle instruction, relay training, strength and conditioning, and meet-day operations. His impact extends beyond the collegiate level, having recently coached elite hurdlers, including 2024 NCAA 400-meter hurdles All-American Caleb Dean, who posted a world-class time of 47.23 seconds and finished fourth in the world, and 2025 high school All-American Sydney Sutton, who recorded a personal-best 56.04 in the 400-meter hurdles.
A veteran coach with more than 20 years of collegiate coaching experience, Dean-Neil previously served as a Track & Field Consultant at Bowie State during the 2005-06 season, where he advised on sprint training, periodization, relay exchanges, and technical development.
Prior to his return to Bowie State, Dean-Neil coached at the University of Maryland from 2002-03, working with NCAA Division I sprinters, hurdlers, and relay teams while assisting with recruiting, athlete development, and performance planning. He also spent four seasons at Seton Hall University (1998-2002), helping develop Big East champions, NCAA champions, Olympians, and nationally competitive relay squads.
As a student-athlete at Seton Hall, Dean-Neil established himself as one of the nation's premier 400-meter hurdlers. He earned NCAA Division I All-America honors in 1989, won the IC4A Championship in the 400-meter hurdles, competed for the United States East Team at the 1989 and 1991 U.S. Olympic Festival, qualified for the 1992 and 1996 U.S. Olympic Trials, and signed a professional endorsement contract with Nike.
Dean-Neil earned a Master of Education in Instructional Technology and Instructional Design from Seton Hall University in 2002 after receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the university in 1992.
