Jay Grimes

  • Title
    Wide Receivers Coach

Jay Grimes enters his first season as Wide Receivers Coach at Bowie State, bringing a diverse background in player development and offensive operations across the high school, collegiate, and NFL levels.

Grimes began his coaching career in 2019 at the University of Central Florida as a student assistant, working closely with the wide receivers under head coach Josh Heupel. That early experience helped him build a strong foundation in offensive concepts and receiver development.

In 2022, Grimes joined The John Carroll School as Wide Receivers and Defensive Backs Coach while also serving as Junior Varsity Offensive Coordinator. Under his guidance, the JV offense averaged 26 points per game and improved from a 0–10 record to 5–5 in one season.

He continued to expand his coaching experience in 2023 with the Carolina Panthers during Organized Team Activities, gaining NFL exposure while studying offensive systems and wide receiver play under coaches Dave Canales and Brad Idzik.

In 2025, Grimes served as an Offensive Assistant at Morgan State University, where he primarily worked with the wide receivers and assisted the offensive staff with game planning, film breakdown, and practice preparation.

Known for his emphasis on route precision, detail, and player development, Grimes brings energy and a growth-oriented approach to the Bowie State offense.
