Tristian “TJ” Gunter was named the Media Relations Coordinator for Bowie State Athletics on Jan. 8, 2025. In his role, Gunter serves as the primary media contact for all 14 Bowie State varsity athletic programs while overseeing the department’s social media platforms, official athletics website (bsubulldogs.com), live statistics and game day communications operations. He also assists with broadcasting and live streaming efforts for the Bulldogs.
Gunter helps supervise and mentor a talented team of student interns within the Bowie State Athletic Communications staff.
In 2025-26, Gunter was named the CIAA John Holley Sports Information Director of the Year, becoming one of the youngest recipients of the prestigious award in conference history.
Prior to Bowie State, Gunter served in an assistant role with the Sports Information Office at Bluefield State University, where he assisted with game operations, media relations, day-to-day communications tasks and in-game statistics.
A former All-CIAA linebacker at Bluefield State, Gunter totaled 46 tackles (28 solo, 18 assists), six tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks during the 2023 season. He also made program history after becoming the first Bluefield State football student-athlete invited to participate in the HBCU Pigskin Showdown.
A native of Detroit, Michigan, Gunter earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a minor in Entrepreneurship from Bluefield State University in December 2024.
