(PETERSBURG, Va.) Jasmine Davis was a one-person wrecking crew, putting down a game-high 25 kills to lead Virginia State to a five set win over Bowie State, beating BSU's Lady Bulldogs 12-25, 25-21, 16-25, 25-23 and 15-11.
The Bowie State senior trio of
Tamira Conner Rogers (Ft. Washington, MD, Oxon Hill),
Jasmine McNair (Germantown, MD, Seneca Valley) and
Alycia Williams-Chase (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) tallied 14, 13 and 2 kills respectively in the loss. Williams-Chase, McNair and Conner Rogers combined for 38 of Bowie State's 71 total digs. Bowie State's
Itumeleng Shadreck (Bostwana Africa, East Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central) led all players with 42 assists and accounted for a game-high 17 digs. BSU's Williams-Chase also recorded a game-high four service aces.
Other than Davis, Janeeka Benson notched nine kills for Virginia State's Lady Trojans and Brooke Wilson added added another five kills. Courtney Powell paced the Virginia State defense with a team-high11 digs.
Bowie State's record dips to 13-14 overall, 7-5 in the CIAA and 4-3 in the Eastern Division. With the win, Virginia State improves to 10-16 overall, 7-6 in the CIAA and 6-2 in the East. Bowie State will play its regular season finale - Thursday, October 30th, hosting Virginia Union at 7 p.m. in BSU's A.C. Jordan Arena.
