(Bowie, Md.) The Bowie State University volleyball team sent its senior out on a positive note in the regular season home finale, beating Virginia Union University 3-0 (25-10, 25-22 and 25-15). The win snapped a four-game losing streak and improved the Lady Bulldogs record to 14-14 overall, 8-5 in the CIAA and 5-3 in the Eastern Division.
Seniors Bethany Sloat (Baltimore, MD, Western, Columbia Union College) and Tamira Conner Rogers (Ft. Washington, MD, Oxon Hill) led BSU's Lady Bulldogs with seven kills each and fellow senior Jasmine McNair (Germantown, MD, Seneca Valley) added another half dozen kills of her own. McNair and junior Itumeleng Shadreck (Bostwana Africa, East Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central) paced the Bowie State defense with seven and nine digs respectively. Senior Alycia Williams-Chase (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) recorded a game-high four service aces in the victory and McNair and Conner Rogers chipped in two aces apiece.
Lashira Williams led Virginia Union's Lady Panthers with eight kills and Aluara Jones contributed another seven kills in the three set loss. Aleesha Williams played great defense for Virginia Union, picking up a game-high 25 digs on the night to go along with two service aces. VUU's Stephanie Bell was credited with two service aces and three kills for the Lady Panthers.
Virginia Union wraps up the regular season with an overall record of 8-19, 4-9 in the CIAA and 1-7 in the Eastern Division. Virginia Union and Bowie State will be two of the teams representing the conference's Eastern Division in next weeks (November 5-8) CIAA Championships in Hampton, Va.
