(FAYETTEVILLE, NC) Livingstone College pushed Bowie State University to the max and wound up beating the Lady Bulldogs three sets to two. Livingstone's Lady Blue Bears lost the first set 28-26 but bounced back to defeat BSU's Lady Bulldogs 25-21 and 25-21 in the next two sets. Bowie State took set four by a 25-23 count but fell in set five 15-7.
Livingstone (3-4) had not one a match all day but did what was necessary to capture a victory. Devia Moss was Livingstone's top player on offense and defense, leading the Lady Blue Bears with a game-high 25 kills and a team-high 30 digs. Tia Charlow was also huge on offense for Livingstone, putting away 17 kills and matched that total in the digs category. Shannon Allen setup a game-high 35 assists and added a game-high four service aces.
The Bowie State senior duo of Tamira Conner Rogers (Ft. Washington, MD, Oxon Hill) and Alycia Williams-Chase (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) were credited with 13 and 11 kills respectively. Junior La Tesha Johnson (Arnold, MD, Antioch Christian School, Anne Arundel C.C.) played great defense, rolling up a game-high 32 digs and senior Jasmine McNair (Germantown, MD, Seneca Valley), Conner Rogers and Williams-Chase tallied 17 digs each. McNair paced Bowie State with 18 assists and Itumeleng Shadreck (Bostwana Africa, East Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central)added 14 assists in the setback.
Bowie State (6-4, 4-1 in the CIAA) will wrap-up the weekend Round-Up with a 8 a.m. Sunday morning match against Johnson C. Smith and closeout against host Fayetteville State at 4 p.m.
