(FAYETTEVILLE, NC) Bowie State awakened this morning hungry for a win and win they did as the Lady Bulldogs slammed Johnson C. Smith 25-16, 25-11 and 25-5 to begin day two of the CIAA Volleyball Round-Up. BSU improves its record to 7-4 overall and 5-1 in the CIAA.
Bowie State held Johnson C. Smith's Lady Golden Bulls to a minus .159 attack percentage and were led by the senior trio of
Alycia Williams-Chase (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic),
Tamira Conner Rogers (Ft. Washington, MD, Oxon Hill) and
Jasmine McNair (Germantown, MD, Seneca Valley). Williams-Chase accounted for a game-high 11 kills, while Conner Rogers and McNair posted nine and six kills respectively. Juniors
Breaun Garner (Beltsville, MD, Northwestern) and
Itumeleng Shadreck (Bostwana Africa, East Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central) netted four kills each and Itumenleng had a game-high 24 assists.
Ashley Young-Jones and Ashley Williams combined for nine of Johnson C. Smith's 13 total kills. Young-Jones led both teams with seven digs and Rashondae Henderson added another five digs. The loss dips JCSU's Lady Golden Bulls to 3-7 on the year and 2-3 in the conference
BSU's Lady Bulldogs will close out the weekend with a 4 p.m. battle with the defending CIAA Champions and host Fayetteville State.
