(FAYETTEVILLE, NC) The defending CIAA Champions of Fayetteville State University overcame a 2-1 deficit and went on to capture a 3-2 victory over Bowie State University to closeout the Lady Bulldogs weekend at the conference Round-Up.
Bowie State (6-5, 5-2 in the CIAA) dropped the opening match 25-13 but bounced back to win the next two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-22 and appeared primed to deliver the knockout punch. The FSU Lady Broncos edged BSU's Lady Bulldogs 25-22 in set four and wrapped up the match with a 15-9 win.
Fayetteville State (8-7, 5-1 in the CIAA) was led by Chekimbrel Jefferson with 25 kills on the afternoon and contributed 11 defensive digs. Samantha Meeks also tallied double-digit kills (10) and added a dozen digs. Achari Mainor played well on the defensive end for Fayetteville State picking up 12 digs to go along with two service aces. Heather Chance was the games leading digger, getting on the floor for 19 and was credited with a team-high three service aces.
The Bowie State Lady Bulldogs were once again led by senior
(Germantown, MD, Seneca Valley),
Breaun Garner (Beltsville, MD, Northwestern) and
Ashley Robinson (Cleveland, OH, Shaker Heights) were the only other Bowie State players to record kills. McNair knocked down nine, followed by Garner and Robinson with five and three kills respectively.
Bowie State will have very little time to rest before returning to action - Monday (9/15) hosting Goldey-Beacom College at 6 p.m. in BSU's A.C. Jordan Arena.
