ST. AUGUSTINE’S GROUNDS BOWIE STATE 3-1 IN VOLLEYBALL ACTION

(BOWIE, MD) St. Augustine's College avenged an earlier season loss to Bowie State and left (BSU's) A.C. Jordan Arena with a 3-1 volleyball victory over the Lady Bulldogs. The St. Augustine's Lady Falcons won by scores of 25-19, 17-25, 25-17 and 25-23 to improve their record to 6-8 on the year and 6-3 in the CIAA).

Casey Williams scored a team-high 13 kills and accounted for eight digs in the St. Augustine's win. Brittany Watts and Shakira Carter had a dozen kills each for the SAC's Lady Falcons and Stephony Newkirk contributed 10 kills of her own. St. Augustine's Nicollete Campbell tallied a game-high 21 digs and Roxanne Smith pitched in a game-high 44 assists.

Bowie State (8-7 and 5-4 in the CIAA) was led by seniors Alycia Williams-Chase (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) and Jasmine McNair (Germantown, MD, Seneca Valley). Williams-Chase knocked down a game-high 17 kills and added eight digs. McNair was the only other Bowie State player to record double figure kills (10), picked up eight digs and was credited with three block assists.

Seniors Tamira Conner Rogers (Ft. Washington, MD, Oxon Hill) and Bethany Sloat (Baltimore, MD, Western) along with sophomore Ashley Robinson (Cleveland, OH, Shaker Heights) combined for the remaining 14 kills for BSU's Lady Bulldogs. Junior La Teasha Johnson (Arnold, MD, Antioch Christian School, Anne Arundel C.C.) led Bowie State's defense with 13 digs on the night and fellow junior Itumeleng Shadreck (Bostwana Africa, East Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central) had 31 assists to go along with eight digs and three service aces.

Bowie State returns to play – Thursday (9/25) traveling across town to face the University of the District of Columbia Lady Firebirds in a non-conference event at 7p.m.
