VOLLEYBALL WINS THIRD STRAIGHT IN SWEEP OVER VIRGINIA STATE

(BOWIE, MD) The Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs won their third match in a row after capturing a three game sweep over visiting Virginia University. BSU had little trouble beating the Lady Trojans 25-18, 25-19 and 25-22 and improved its record to 11-7 overall, 6-4 in the CIAA and 3-1 in the Eastern Division.  The three set sweep was Bowie State's eighth shutout of the year.

Leading the assault for Bowie State's Lady Bulldogs was senior Alycia Williams-Chase (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic). Williams-Chase appeared more fired up than usual and paced her team with a game-high 12 kills, 10 digs and two service aces. Fellow seniors Bethany Sloat (Baltimore, MD, Western, Columbia Union College) and Tamira Conner Rogers (Ft. Washington, MD, Oxon Hill) knocked down eight kills each for the Lady Bulldogs. Junior Itumeleng Shadreck (Bostwana Africa, East Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central) served up a game-high three service aces to go along with six digs and 26 assists.

Janeeka Benson led Virginia State with a team-high eight kills and three block assists. Jasmine Davis tallied seven kills on the afternoon and Brooke Wilson along with Nicole Robinson recorded five kills each. The Virginia State loss drops the Lady Trojans to 5-10 on the season, 4-5 in the CIAA and 1-2 in the Eastern Division.

Bowie State will host the division leading Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State – Friday, October 3rd at 4 p.m. in BSU's A.C. Jordan Arena.
